Back to the Grind… teaching, fellowship, and classes.

I have been a little lazy with my posts but I am back to the grind of grad school.  I am entering my second year at Columbia College Chicago in the Interdisciplinary Book and Paper program. I am very honored not only to be a part of the grad program but I am also teaching a letterpress undergraduate class this year.  Teaching undergrads is one of my ultimate professionals goals and it feels extremely satisfying and exciting.  Woohooooo!

I was also picked to be the print production fellow for this entire school year at Columbia.  I am working closely with Brad Freeman who publishes JAB (Journals Artists Books) through offset printing.  So far it is super amazing!!! I will post pictures and updates. So keep your eye out!  That’s it for now… back to school work.

Grad School

In one week I will have one year of grad school complete! I am so excited, two more years to go and I will be finish!  My first year has been like a roller coaster for the good and bad.  I have definitely realized the direction I am going with my work and hope to build a strong body of work over the next two years.  I have a completely different mindset from when I started the program for the better and hopefully this will continue to grow! Yay grad school!!!!

I heart the Heidelberg Printing Press!

I am super excited because this past week my professor Clif Meador and April Sheridan trained me on the Heidelberg windmill printing press!!!  It is a different experience compared to the Vandercook proof presses! I loved it and I am extremely grateful to have been taught!

Edible Book Show

Last Friday at Columbia College there was an edible book show!  At the end of the show we devoured the master pieces!  They gave out five awards and everyone in my program won! It was amazing! I won Best in Show!! Woohoo..

This book is made of sugar, life savers, and shoe string licorice!

Brain Food

My Artist Statement

Brain Food, is about two substances known as brain food: caffeine and sugar. Formed into nine pages made out of sugar and red shoestring licorice, the center of each page is one letter the word brain food. The book can be looked at as individual pages or the entire book can be read as one word. Brain Food will be set up next to the coffee during the opening show. When the time comes to eat the books I will break Brain Food up and the sugar can be used for the coffee.
